Attention Grade 11 Students!
We here at KEY know that this is an incredibly busy time for you. It's also a critical one as you begin to prepare for writing your university admissions applications.
You may not know this, but some universities will track how interested you are in them. They will track how often you visit their website, how long you spend going through their site, and what pages you visit. This is all part of what we refer to as "demonstrating interest" in the university.
Universities want students who will actually attend, not those who simply apply without any real intention of going if they are accepted. As such, universities have to be more selective about who they will admit.
It's in your interest to take some easy steps online to demonstrate your interest:
#1: You should make it a habit between now and application submission time to be regularly visiting the websites of the schools to which you intend on applying.
#2: You should make sure to sign up to join the university's mailing list. Examples of mailing list registrations include:
NYU: https://connect.nyu.edu/register/requestinfo
Cornell: https://engage.admissions.cornell.edu/register/joinourmailinglist
Princeton: https://apply.princeton.edu/register/inquire
The universities above are just examples. You should take the time to find the registration webpage for each of the universities to which you apply. This is easy, and can be done simply by Googling "[name of university] + admissions + mailing list".
TIP:
Whether you are creating your Common App account, signing up for a mailing list, or emailing an admissions officer, it's important to use ONLY one email address. You should be consistent with the address you use; don't use multiple addresses as that will make it harder for the universities to track you.
If you can find some time this month, please register for the mailing lists. Also, don't forget to create your Common App account.
Now go enjoy the Spring sunshine!
Sincerely,
