The SSAT registration portal opened Aug. 1, and while it may seem months away until the very first SSAT exam, there is in fact not much time for your child to prepare.
Here are a few challenges that we have seen with students preparing for the SSAT:
-
Students who are ESL need at least an additional 8 weeks to prepare for the SSAT, on top of the regular timeline for most other students. This is because of the challenges in learning the required vocabulary for the test, which can often prove daunting for any student, let alone one who is still grasping English.
-
For families that go back to China for the summer, remember this: for the time that your child spends there, you will need double the time back in Vancouver to get them caught up on their English language proficiency when they left Canada. So, one month in China will mean two months in Vancouver for your child just to get back to their previous English language level after not having been exposed to consistent English communication.
-
Some families don’t necessarily take the SSAT as seriously as they should, and as such don’t properly plan their child’s preparation to give them enough time. In this hyper-competitive environment, every bit counts, so it’s crucial that your child is performing as best as they can in all areas from academics to standardized tests to their extracurricular profile.
With summer half done, there is still time, though, for your child to get ahead and prepare. KEY has developed our own proprietary SSAT prep program that has a proven track record of getting students impressive results. Our students have even seen score improvements up to the 99th percentile.
We help your child save time and reduce their test anxiety by focusing on and strengthening their weaknesses. We’re able to quickly identify and tackle those problem areas so that your child can gain the greatest score point increase in the shortest amount of time. Our Western-raised and educated teachers also make studying for the SSAT enjoyable, ensuring that your child stays motivated throughout the process.
Upcoming SSAT exam dates for this fall include:
-
October 13
-
November 10
